There are lots of people who run successful businesses at VAs. You offer a wide variety of services and my first question is how someone could be good at all these things. I know it seems like it makes more sense to “do everything” but in fact you will be more successful in businesses if you can focus your services on what you do best rather than doing a whole bunch of things so-so.
Then it’s a question of whether you have a network of clients to begin with and/or money to advertise? Do you have the self-discipline to work from home? Do you need a specific income immediately or can you afford to not make a lot for at least the first year or two? What about health insurance? Do you mind giving up paid vacations? Can you afford business insurance in case you make a big mistake for a client and get sued?
Being self-employed is a lot of hard work and long hours. Most people underestimate how much. But it is also very satisfying.
If you are in a position where you are not currently working full time and you would just increase your time involved from hobby to business, I don’t see a downside. What can it hurt to give it a try?
